ABOUT THE HOST

JD

Hey, I’m Jared Dillian, and I’m on a mission to help you master your personal finances to live a more rich, stress-free life. I’ve been in the financial industry for more than 20 years.
And while I am (or was) the “Wall Street guy,” I have always wanted to help people on an individual level. I already do so with The Daily Dirtnap and my other financial newsletters— I definitely help my subscribers make money!

Here’s the thing: Personal finance is actually more complicated than institutional finance, because there are so many decisions to be made. And the decisions you make will drastically affect your life — for good or for bad. Yet, a lot of the time, it seems like anyone can call themselves a “personal finance guru.” There’s a lot of good personal finance advice out there. There’s also a hell of a lot of dangerous advice.

Why should you listen to a “Wall Street guy”?

Sure, I made it on Wall Street, but I’m a child of two public servants and I served my time earning $20,000 a year in the Coast Guard. I am not some “do as I say but not as I do” person who has never experienced economic discomfort. Even when I was a trader, my story is one of economic sacrifices. I lived far below my means during a time when it was expected I would live far above my means. When I was on Wall Street, I bought a tiny, cheap house in a neighborhood that was not up-and-coming. I brought cans of Chef Boyardee to work for lunch. I’ve been there, done that, got the Men’s Wearhouse suits.

If you want rules to nail to your forehead, I’m not the guy. If you want to be advised on how to fix your financial issues in the most economically sensible way, I am the guy.
